The Crown of Maine Balloon Fest will reach the 5 year mark in 2008. Excitement for the 2008 festival is already growing despite the challenges weather presented to the 2007 flight schedule, as the memory of the perfect 2006 season is still strong. 2008, also, marks the 30th Anniversary of the first successful Transatlantic Balloon flight which launched from here in Presque Isle on August 11, 1978. We would like to dedicate the 2008 Crown of Maine Balloon Fest to the Double Eagle II and her 3 pilots, Ben Abruzzo, Maxie Anderson and Larry Newman.
Aroostook County is home to two historic transatlantic balloon flights:
Double Eagle II
Rosie O'Grady
First transatlantic flight
First solo transatlantic flight
