We are pleased to announce that Tallahassee will be joining us on August 24, as our headlining act. We are very excited, as this dynamic band was on our short list. Tallahassee will take the stage around 8pm. Mellow Endeavor will play at 6:30pm.
“The New England-based roots rock band, Tallahassee takes it’s name from a Native American word meaning, “old town.” Formed in Providence, RI in 2008, Tallahassee is comprised of singer/guitarist, Brian Barthelmes, bassist Shawn Carney, drummer Matt Raskopf and guitarist Scott Thompson. Instead of recycling familiar musical concepts under the precept of Americana, Tallahassee strives to pioneer uncharted sonic territory. Augmented by their diverse backgrounds in professional football, fine art and classical music, Tallahassee melds a broad range of influences into an original sound that’s simultaneously familiar and unique.”
We are saddened to announce that due to medical circumstances (see below), we will be cancelling the Brown Bird show that was scheduled for the 2013 Crown of Maine Balloon Fest. Our hearts and prayers are with Dave and MorganEve through this difficulty and we hope to see them here in the future. In the meantime, we are endeavoring to find an act to fill their sizable shoes. Please help, if you are able.
First, let us take this opportunity to thank you all for the tremendous support you’ve shown us over the past week. We are moved beyond words by the love, gifts and kind words that have flooded into our fundraiser, inbox and home.
Over the week, Dave has undergone blood tests and biopsies to narrow down the possible causes for his low blood levels and subsequent illness. There have been several doctors on the case, and they now agree that Dave has a form of leukemia.
Brown Bird will be on hiatus while Dave undergoes chemotherapy treatment. We are staying positive and know that Dave is strong and will make it through this. Please keep us in your thoughts. We will also be keeping the fundraiser open until June 16th. Your generosity has not only helped us pay the immediate medical bills we were faced with, but also allowed us to set up medical insurance, which should start on June 1st. However, because we don’t know how long Dave’s treatments will take, it’s impossible to know how long we won’t be able to work; your donations now also go towards keeping us afloat while we have virtually no income.
Which brings us back to thanking you all, once again, for the support you’ve already given us. This will be (and already has been) a long, scary journey, but with your help, we’ll come out of it stronger than ever, and rearing to play.
We love you
-Dave and MorganEve
